Warren is proving very conclusively how the changes are reflective of societal changes, not people's laziness. People are working much harder (as measured by productivity) and getting less. And since the problems are societal, they must be addressed at a societal level -- i.e. changes in laws and mores. If people still say "get a job" after watching this, there's not much hope for convincing them.

depends what car you are driving, if it's higher it can flip over. I saw the one vid with the Vectra? that car should do fine. I however don't recommend you to drive on streets w/o license. If you are doing this on a closed area that's another story. Be aware that beside the tyres alot of other parts can be demaged (clutch, steering, engine itself to name a few). Specially if you drive with an old Opel be aware of the higher risiko that something could happen to the car.

The "coming" collapse of the middle class? I USED to be part of the middle class, so for me and most of my friends the collapse has already happened, U.C. it's sad but it's true...globalization means we Americans have to compete with those in China and India who are dying to work for 1 US dollar an hour 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. And when you get laid off, GOP says you're lazy? What's considered not lazy? Move to China and hope to get a factory job? Wake up people, the rich will exploit you until you are dead, through health care schemes, banking schemes, you name, they will find way. I hope to see the day we middle class burn'em down

@mmmmotherlicker - Both parents working outside of the home by itself is not the problem. Elizabeth Warren mentioned other factors harming the middle class that have little to do with both parents working. The problem is that we are earning less money and yet paying more for housing, health care, etc. This is an issue that everybody faces.

Her book "The Two-Income Trap" points out how it often makes more sense for one parent to stay home and be a full-time mom (or dad) rather than earn two full-time incomes. In part this is because of the high progressive income tax rates, job-related and daycare expenses, and the cost of maintaining, operating, and insuring a second vehicle.

In 1978 my hubby & I knew that both parents working was a big con. We refused to play into it, I stayed home & homeschooled our children. He worked for half the pay of what all the other families who both worked got. I shopped at Goodwill, flea markets, eat leftovers, bought used cars, bid on eBay, We managed to save cash for a piece of land, & lived in an RV for 4 yrs. while building a 3,000 sq ft. rammed earth home w/out borrowing money from banks. Our choices were hard, but worth it.

@psykotrol I've been looking into Fresco and The Venus recently too. I love what he does and his ideas. However, I'm with you. To say that crime won't exist is naive. I'm sure the less oppression people receive will lower the crime rate. We may even come close to a near perfect society. But there will always be those who commit heinous crimes against humanity. Nature or nurture isn't even the issue. Some people love murder, rape, and destruction.

All of what she says boils down to: use a gun to your head for my decision to be a mommy and daddy, & use your money to support my children. Interesting how she doesn't go into the rigged system of the Federal Reserve and why the #'s are that way.... that would be a real "interesting" but then she wouldn't be there as one of the inside trolls for the power that be's. All that $ on education and interesting how quality keeps going down even after they increased the years for it.... interesting..

i think she made some really good points but id really like to see more on debt to assett ratio as opposed to income. what you own to me more defines class than what you make and i think thats alot of what has lead to this illusion by debt finance. weve kept up appearances as middle class families are wont to do

Are the people on here from the "get a job and stop whining" school watching this video? Warren is proving very conclusively how the changes are reflective of societal changes, not people's laziness. People are working much harder (as measured by productivity) and getting less. And since the problems are societal, they must be addressed at a societal level -- i.e. changes in laws and mores. If people still say "get a job" after watching this, there's not much hope for convincing them.
